Facebook search ads just around the corner? How to take advantage of keywords today to boost app installs.

There’s been a lot of news for app marketers about search marketing lately. First Apple announced that it plans to serve search ads, and then on Facebook’s Q2 2016 earnings call Mark Zuckerberg gave some hints on Facebook’s intentions in this area. Here’s an extract of what Facebook’s CEO had to say:

"So when we talk about our strategy, I often talk about how when we develop new products we think about it in three phases. First, building a consumer use case. Then, second, making it so that people can organically interact with businesses. And then third, on top of that, once there’s a large volume of people interacting with businesses, giving businesses tools to reach more people…and that’s ultimately the business opportunity.

1.03 billion reasons to run app install ads on Facebook

Our recent blog post highlighted Facebook’s total dominance of the app install ad market. This week’s earnings announcement from the social media giant provides further compelling evidence (if you needed it) that mastering Facebook advertising is not an option for the serious app marketer.

One number that jumped out at me from Facebook’s Q2 summary - 1.03 billion - the number of Mobile DAUs (Daily Average Users) for June 2016. A whopping increase of 22% year-over-year.

Facebook app advertising revenue exploding--are you making the most of your ad dollars?

Recent news from Citi Research presented some pretty staggering facts about just how much app marketers are spending on Facebook to promote their apps. After my head stopped spinning, I began to wonder just how effective that ad spend is. But before we get to that, check out these numbers from Citi Research:
  • 1.15 billion apps - the number Citi estimated will be downloaded through marketing on Facebook properties in 2016. A rise of 33% over 2015
  • $2.9 billion - the amount of Facebook's ad revenue from mobile app-install ads in 2015, or 17% of ad revenue.
  • 4 billion - the estimated cumulative total of app downloads from Facebook by 2017
